Srinagar: An order issued by National Institute of Technology, Srinagar has been clarified by the managenent. Earlier in the evening the NIT shared an order on its official website notifying suspension of classes till further orders citing instructions from district administration.
The order was widely circulated on social media for hours together. Later, District Magistrate Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary taking cognizance of matter tweeted that “In wake of unstoppable rumours, heads of all institutions were advised in the day to remain careful. No advise/instructions for shutting down any institution. This NIT notice is apparently a miscommunication”
It was learnt that in view of holidays ahead the NIT managenent had planned vacations from 5th to 15th August however due to massive rumours leading to panic in city and distress calls received from parents the NIT managenent sought help of Government for transportation in wake of likely security concern.
The district administration provided the requisite assistance. There was no order from administration for closure of college and even all schools are functioning normally. Pertinently Govt Degree Colleges are already on vacation.
Pursuant to response from DM the NIT managenent withdrew it’s order and clarified the matter. It has been stated that vacations in NIT should not be read with prevailing situation.
Further, district administration maintained that reading administrative decision of NIT a directive of district administration is a miscommunication which was later reiterated by NIT and previous order withdrawn.
