Srinagar, Dec 21: Anti Corruption Bureau on Thursday said it trapped and arrested an official of Rural Development Department for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2,000 in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
A spokesperson said that ACB received a written complaint against Assistant Engineer, Tanveer Ahmad Dar posted in BDO Office, Surasyar, Chadoora for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs 2,000 for release of due payment in favour of the complainant.
The statement reads that the complainant alleged that he is contractor of Rural Development Department and had completed allotted works and the Assistant Engineer was demanding 2% of the total cost of the bills.
“The complainant alleged that two bills of Rs 90,000 each were to be passed by the AE, however, he remained adamant on his demand of bribe and finally agreed on Rs 2,000 as bribe to release the payment. The complainant arranged Rs 2000 and approached ACB for legal action,” it reads.
It added that onn receipt of the complaint, case FIR No. 25/2023 U/S 7 PC Act 1988 was registered in PS ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.
“During the course of investigation a trap team was constituted and caught him redhanded while demanding and accepting Rs 2,000 as bribe. The bribe money was recovered on spot and the accused was arrested and taken into legal custody. Further Investigation of the case is going on,” it added.(KNO)
