Calls for safety of deceased sister
Bandipora, April 16: JKPM leader Shehla Rashid visited Chaliwan village in district Bandipora today where a 22 year old girl has died after being allegedly raped by her father for several years.
She met the younger sister of the victim who is now fighting for justice against her father. Shehla Rashid lauded the courage of the sister who is only 17 years old. She has assured her of full support and asked her to carry on the fight for justice without fear.
Shehla Rashid was accompanied by a team of JKPM members including several female volunteers as well as JKPM Bandiporin chargege Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
“This incident is deeply shocking and must act as a wake-up call for all of us as a society, ” Shehla said
JKPM calls for a thorough investigation into the incident and the guilty must be given the strictest possible punishment. Whether the girl committed suicide or not must be investigated. “Police must ensure a full proof safety of witnesses and complainants,” Shehla appealed.
JKPM team later met the concerned DSP and expressed concerns about the safety of the victim’s younger sister who is now fighting for justice. If need be, the girl should be shifted to a safe place, the delegation told DSP Murtaza Hussain Mir. The team expressed satisfaction at the course of the investigation and appealed for speedy justice.
Dr Mustafa Khan called for the strictest punishment against the guilty “We will work for awareness about child sexual abuse so that such incidents are not repeated,” Khan said.
