Ganderbal, Jan 13: The scarcity of snowfall in Sonamarg this winter has left the local community grappling with economic challenges, raising concerns about the impact on the region’s vital tourism sector.
Residents of Sonamarg expressed their worries in conversation with the news agency, saying they are concerned about the adverse effects of reduced snowfall on the local economy.
Many of us rely on winter activities and tourism-related services, and the lack of snowfall has created difficulties for businesses and individuals alike, they said.
CEO of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Dr Ilyas Ahmad, told that concerted efforts would be made to boost the tourism sector in the area. He acknowledged the natural phenomenon of decreased snowfall this year and said there is a need for adaptive strategies to mitigate its economic consequences.
“We understand the concerns of the locals, and we are committed to doing our best to promote the tourism sector in Sonamarg,” Dr Ahmad said. He highlighted the importance of exploring alternative attractions and activities to keep the tourism industry vibrant, even in the absence of traditional winter elements.
The people have expressed hope that collaborative efforts between the authorities and local businesses will help them navigate through this challenging period.(KNO)
