Ganderbal: The upper reaches of Ganderbal district including the famous health resort of Sonamarg experienced fresh snowfall on Wednesday leading to the closure of 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway.
Reports said the higher reaches of Ganderbal, including Sonamarg, Nilghart, Baltal, Zojila pass on Srinagar-Leh highway received fresh spell of snowfall early Wednesday morning.
Traffic on 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway was temporarily suspended from both sides since Tuesday evening as precautionary measure after fresh snowfall in Sonamarg and Zojila area, a police official said.
He said about 4 inches of fresh snow had accumulated on the highway at Zojilla Pass and half inch of fresh snow accumulated at Sonamarg.
He said that if weather permits, and there is no further snowfall the highway will be thrown open to traffic again.
