Manhunt Launched To Nab Accused Drive

Jammu, Jul 28: Jammu Police on Monday seized a Mahindra Thar, involved in an attempt to murder case in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu, while a massive manhunt was launched to nab the accused driver.

As per officials, the incident, which has been classified as an attempt to murder, was caught on CCTV cameras, has raised serious concerns about road safety and reckless driving in the region.

Speaking to media, Superintendent of police SP Jammu South Ajay Sharma said that the Mahindra Thar JK02DP-9594 allegedly struck an elderly pedestrian in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu has been seized while the driver, who was identified as Manan Aanad managed to flee the scene.

“As per the video, the driver deliberately hit the victim, seriously injuring him and fled the scene, shows the intent of crime,” the officer said, adding, “The incident has been registered as a case of attempt to murder under relevant sections of the BNS at Police Station Gandhi Nagar. The vehicle has been seized and a manhunt launched to nab the culprit,” he said.

Moreover, the elderly victim, who rushed to medical care, has been receiving treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, though his condition remains critical due to head injury.

Preliminary investigations suggest the driver acted with malicious intent, prompting the police to treat the case with utmost seriousness.

Addressing the media at Gandhi Nagar Police Station, SP South Ajay Sharma emphasized the police’s resolve to bring the culprit to justice: “This is a heinous act of violence against a defenseless elderly person. The driver of the Thar vehicle, bearing registration number JK02DP 9594, not only endangered a life but also fled the scene, showing complete disregard for the law. We have registered a case of attempt to murder and are employing all available resources, including CCTV analysis and witness statements, to apprehend the accused. The Jammu Police will leave no stone unturned to ensure justice is served.”

Local MLA Bahu Vikram Randhawa also visited GMC Jammu to enquire about the health of the victim.

Expressing concern over an attempted murder case reported in Jammu’s Gandhi Nagar. Randhawa condemned the violent act and urged police to nab the culprit as soon as possible and punish as per law.(KNO)
