Kashmir Highway

Srinagar, April 8(QNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic plan and advisory for April 9, 2025, concerning the movement of vehicles on major highways, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), SSG Road, and other key routes.

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44):

Subject to fair weather and improved road conditions, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), including passenger and private cars, will be allowed to move from both sides—Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa. However, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), primarily load carriers, will be permitted to move from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar only after road conditions are assessed.

Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Jammu and Srinagar are directed to remain in constant coordination with TCU Ramban to monitor the highway’s status. Commuters are strongly advised to check the latest updates on the official J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page before commencing their journey.

Security Forces Convoy Movement:

Security forces are requested to adhere to the traffic advisory and avoid traveling against the traffic plan due to possible congestion along the narrow stretch between Nashree and Banihal. Movement from Jammu towards Srinagar may be allowed after confirmation from TCU Ramban.

Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road (NH-244):

This road continues to remain closed for vehicular movement as per an advisory issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kokernag (Ref. No. SDM/KNG/2024-25/3139-45 dated 16-01-2025).

SSG Road (Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari):

Only one-way traffic for LMVs with anti-skid chains will be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil, depending on weather and road conditions and subject to clearance from road maintenance agencies (BRO). Vehicles will be permitted to cross Sonamarg only until 11:30 AM. No HMVs will be allowed on this route.

Mughal Road:

Mughal Road remains closed due to snow accumulation, in accordance with an order from the District Magistrate Poonch (Order No. DMP/JC/7273-92 dated 18-01-2025).

Bhaderwah-Chamba Road:

The Bhaderwah-Chamba route also remains closed owing to heavy snow accumulation.
