The weather along the NHW is clear presently. The commuters are advised to confirm status of the road from Traffic Control Units at Srinagar, Ramban, Jammu and PCR Jammu/Srinagar before starting journey on the Jammu – Srinagar NHW as chances of occurring of sudden landslides/shooting stones at vulnerable/landslide prone areas during night hours cannot be ruled out.
Keeping in view the over all condition of the road, especially between Jawahar Tunnel and Ramban coupled with narrow width of the NHW at some places, allowing two way movement of vehicles on the NHW is not feasible.
Therefore, subject to fair weather and good condition of the road, tomorrow on 09.11.2018, movement of LMVs on the Jammu- Srinagar NHW shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) towards Srinagar after 0400 hours to 1500 hours and shall be cross Jakheni (Udhampur) up to 1700 hours.
No movement of any LMVs shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) after 1500 hours and from Jakheni (Udhampur) after 1700 hours to avoid congestion on the NHW/ safety of the passengers. However, the commuters are requested/advised that avoid travelling during night hours.
Similarly the movement of HMVs/Load Carriers shall be one way only. Tomorrow on 09.11.2018 movement of these vehicles shall be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar only after tail of down convoy crosses Jakheni (Udhampur) and there from it shall be regulated. These vehicles shall not be allowed to halt between Nashree Tunnel to Jawahar Tunnel.
No movement of any type of vehicle shall be allowed from opposite side in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the NHW/safety of passengers.
In case of adverse weather/road condition, the decision regarding movement of traffic or otherwise on NHW shall be taken by the concerned SSP Traffic on the spot as per the situation.
Moreover, the commuters are advised to exhibit highest order of driving discipline on the NHW in general and while crossing Chenani-Nashri Tunnel in particular. They shall avoid overtaking, over speeding, doubling, especially inside the tunnel and adhere to the road signs and instructions/ Do’s and Don’ts displayed on either sides of the Tunnel for their safe crossing and hassle free movement of traffic inside the tunnel tubes.
Commuters are requested/advised hat vehicles are not parked in any landslide/ vulnerable zone of NHW, especially from Ramban – Jawahar Tunnel and Jawahar Tunnel-Lower Munda under any circumstances. The said road stretches are vulnerable/slide prone zones and therefore should be kept free from all sorts of traffic to avoid any eventuality.
