Police on Friday claimed to have killed two militants in an encounter with government forces in Warpora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“Sopore #encounter update: Two #terrorists killed. Arms & ammunition recovered. Identities & affiliations being ascertained. @JmuKmrPolice @SoporePolice,” Police said on Twitter.

The gunfight broke out on Thursday late evening in Warpora area of Sopore town after forces launched a search operation.

An official said the militants hiding in a house opened fire on the forces, triggering a gunfight.

“In the ensuing gunfight that lasted for several hours, two militants were killed,” he said.

Authorities had suspended the Internet service in the area soon after the gunfight began.
