Srinagar: Snowfall has started in Kashmir valley on Friday evening amid weather department’s forecast for heavy snowfall for next five days.

Snow has started accumulating in Srinagar and elsewhere and almost all roads were blankented by thin sheet of snow. Motorists have been advised to drive carefully due to slippery roads.

The government has taken several measures including establishing snow control rooms in districts to deal with the situation arising due to snow.

A traffic department official said that vehicular traffic on 300 km long Srinagar-Jammu highway which is the only surface link to Kashmir is expected to stay closed. However, the decison about highway will be taken on tomorrow morning, the department’s official twitter handle said.
