Braving snowfall, a sea of people on Saturday participated in the funeral prayers of Jaish-e-Mohammad militant SaqibShafi Dar who was killed along with his Pakistani comrade by government forces in a gunfight in Khonmoh area of Srinagar district.

The funeral prayer was offered to Dar at his native village in Arihal. His body was charred beyond recognition. 

A masked militant also appeared during the funeral and fired several rounds in air as salute for his fallen comrade. People shouted pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans during the funeral.

The slain militant as per source was taken to his home and will be laid to rest possibly on Sunday morning. 

Earlier, braving snowfall thousands of mourners from Pulwama, Shopian, Rajpora and other villages started arriving in Arihal to participate in the funeral prayers of Dar. Women showered flower petals and candies on his body from the rooftops and windows of their homes.

As per his relatives, Dar, 24, had joined militancy five months back. Before joining militancy, he was a student. 

Authorities customarily snapped the mobile internet service in Pulwama district after the killings.
