The Indian Meteorological Department’s Srinagar centre on Saturday has predicted rains and snow from the night of 9th December to 11th december.

Mubeen Ahmad Malik, Scientific Assistant in the Metrological Department (MET) Kashmir said that from the next 48 hours, heavy snow fall will occur in the upper reaches and mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We have already issued an warning alert of snowfall on 10th December. It is expected that areas in South Kashmir may witness heavy snow fall,” Malik said.

He also said that the unabated cold wave in the Valley has continued from the last few days although night temperatures marginally increased on Saturday due to cloud cover.

In Srinagar, the minimum temprature on Saturday was recorded at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, while on 7th December it was minus 4 and on 6th December minus 2.6.

Pahalgam on Saturday saw a minimum temperature of minus 3.7, minus 6.0 on 7th december and minus 4.0 on 6th December.

In Gulmarg Saturday it was minus 6.0, minus 6.2 on 7th December and on 6th December, minus 4.6.

Leh town recorded minus 6.6 degrees Celsius while it was minus 11.4 in Kargil.

Meanwhile, traffic movement on the Srinagar-Jammu highway is continues. There is no reports of landslides on the highway, said an official from the Traffic department.
