Srinagar, July 08: In a major case of negligence at Classic Hospital in Srinagar, a surgeon has removed the uterus of a 26 years old woman in place of her gallbladder.

According to the woman’s family, the 26 year old was diagnosed with the presence of a 6mm polyp on her gall bladder and advised to undergo a surgery in June.

To her shock, not only did her post surgery check up reveal the surgery was not required as the polyp was too small to be removed, the woman got another shock when an ultrasound revealed her uterus was missing.

The family also claimed that when confronted the Classic hospital management first refused to take responsibility and later pleaded for a “compromise”.

“We have been devastated by this hospital and the doctor who operated on her. We have lost hopes of becoming parents now” the husband of the lady told news agency.

He said it is like a death sentence for the family.

“The reality is that we will never be able to conceive is haunting us and is already causing a lot of mental trauma.  What worries us is also the fact that removal of body parts in such a manner will affect the health of my wife for her entire life. Our life has been derailed, said the husband.

The family said they will file a complaint with police.

The Classic hospital administration refused to give the version of the incident despite repeated attempts by KDC.

Director Health Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Rather told that strict action under rules will be taken against the hospital administration and the doctor provide the family files the written complaint. (KDC)
