Shutdown in Nagbal, Soura areas as Ganderbal

Shutdown is being observed in Nagbal, Soura and the adjoining areas as a youth from Ganderbal district injured in forces’ action in Shopian district yesterday battles for life at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura.

Reports said all the shops and business establishments are closed in Nagbal and Soura while a thin movement of transport was witnessed on the roads.

Earlier in the day, scores of youth staged a protest at Nagbal chowk and blocked the road. However, the road was soon cleared for traffic by the police.

Locals said that Mohammed Rafiq Parray (30), a resident of Rangil area of Nagbal in Ganderbal district, was critically injured after forces opened fire on the mourners during the funeral of Al Badr commander Zeenat ul Islam yesterday. 

The youth is admitted at SKIMS and has been put on the ventilator.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan didn’t respond to repeated phone calls by this reporter.
