Normal life was paralysed in Kashmir and Chenab valley areas of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday due to shutdown called by the separatist leadership to mourn killing of six civilians in Kulgam yesterday.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for shutdown today and a march to Lal Chowk tomorrow to protest the “bloodbath” in Laroo village of Kulgam where six civilians died in a blast at the site of a gunfight yesterday.
All shops and other commercial establishments are closed in city centre Lal Chowk while public transport is off the roads. Shutdown is also being observed in other districts of Kashmir and Chenab valley in Jammu division.
Shops, business establishments and some private schools of Muslim community remained closed in Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar. However, government schools, offices and banks are functioning normally.
President Anjuman Islamia (AIB) Bhadarwah, Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh who had announced support for the shutdown call said they can’t remain mute to civilian killings in Kashmir.
The highway town of Banihal in Ramban district and the markets located on the highway are also observing a shutdown to mourn the killings.
