Masrat Alam

‘Conspiracy being hatched to keep him behind bars’

The incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Jammu Kashmir Masarat Alam Bhat was on Friday brought to Srinagar from Hiranagar Jail to appear before the court of Additional District and Session Judge Srinagar for an FIR lodged against him by Nowhatta Police station.

A spokesperson of Muslim League Sajad Ayoubi in a statement issued to GNS said the next hearing of the case has been fixed for 20 December 2018.

He said, “the state administration has made its mind to place Masarat Alam behind bars and it is using PSA as a tool, otherwise courts have repeatedly quashed his detention and directed his release.”

“Putting Masarat Alam is in jail on concocted charges and slapping repeatedly public safety acts (PSAs) on him to prolong his incarceration is nothing but a travesty of justice and democracy,” Ayoubi said.

“A conspiracy is being hatched to keep him behind the bars. The authorities don’t want to free him. There is no justification to keep him behind the bars. New ways and means are being devised to harass and intimidate Masarat Alam, but he will never succumb,” the spokesperson said.

The Muslim League stressed for release of its incarcerated chairman and appealed to United Nations Human Rights Council, Red Cross, Amnesty International and other human rights bodies to come forward and take cognizance of his “illegal” detention.
