The students of Kashmir University on Thursday held massive protests inside the varsity campus against the killing of student turned militant in a predawn brief gunfight in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
Witnesses said that as the news of the killings spread, the students from Zakura campus besides MA and MAK boys hostel assembled at the main campus and staged a protest and marched in campus against the killing of Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Padgampora, Awantipora.
Slain militant Showkat was pursuing B. Pharmacy course at the varsity and had joined Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit a few days ago.
“Bhat was killed in an ambush laid by 50 RR of the army and Special Operations Group of the state police in Dougam Kakapora,” police said early morning.
The students marched inside the campus while chanting pro-freedom slogans and anti-India and offer funeral prayers in absentia as well.
