At least thirteen passengers died and seventeen others were injured, five of them critically, in a road mishap in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning.

An official said a minibus (registration number JK19 1593) on way to Ramban district headquarters from Banihal skidded off the road and rolled down into a 200 feet deep gorge.

He said a rescue operation was immediately launched. The official said the bus was overcrowded with passengers when the mishap took place.

He said that 13 persons died on the spot while seventeen others were injured. The official said the injured were shifted to district hospital Ramban for treatment. “Five of them have suffered critical injuries. They will be airlifted to GMC&H Jammu for specialised treatment,” he said.

Earlier SHO Ramban said twelve persons died in the accident and seven others were injured, GNS news agency reported.

Meanwhile, reports said that the deputy commissioner Ramban Showkat Aijaz has called for air lifting the critically injured to GMC&H Jammu.
