‘66 FIRs Lodged, 15 Vehicles Also Seized During The Period’

Srinagar, Dec 07: Jammu and Kashmir Police said to have arrested as many as 117 people even as booking 15 of them under stringent Public Safety Act for activities related to peddling and consumption of drugs in Central-Kashmir’s Budgam district.

A police spokesman in a statement said that Police Station Budgam registered 24 cases, arrested 44 persons, seized 8 vehicles, detained 3 persons under PSA while as Police Station Khansahib registered 3 cases, arrested 15 persons, seized one Vehicle seized, detained one person under PSA. 

During the same time Police Station Magam registered 13 cases, arrested 18 persons, seized 3 vehicles and detained seven persons detained under PSA. Police Station Beerwah on the other hand registered 13 cases, arrested 21 persons and seized 2 Vehicles. Police Station Khag registered 5 cases, arrested 8 persons, detained one person under PSA. 

Police Station Charar Shareef during the time registered one case, arrested 2 persons, detained one person under PSA and Police Station Chadoora registered 7 cases, arrested 9 persons, seized one vehicle, and also detained two persons under PSA.

Detailing further, the spokesperson said that seizures made during the period include; 4 Kgs and 753 Grams of Charas, 4644 Tablets Spasmo Proxyvon, 353 Bottles Codeine Phosphate, 108 Kg 380 Grams Cannabis Powder, 147 grams Heroin, 561 Kg and 400 Grams Poppy Straw and a cash amounting to Rs 3,03,355/=.

“15 vehicles were seized which were used for commission of the crime have also been seized under NDPS , among these seized vehicles, one vehicle Wagon R bearing registration No.JK04G 1662 has been recommended for confiscation after proper enquiry conducted U/S 68 E of NDPS Act”, the spokesperson said.

Destruction of cultivation, Illegal Bung/ Poppy cultivated on 18 Kanals and 7 Marlas of land has been destroyed, he said.

“Drug Awareness /Rallies were held in order to generate awareness among the general public particularly youth about the ill effects of narcotics, 31 quality awareness programmes/rallies have been conducted at various colleges, Higher Secondary, Schools and other places in the district.”

“Budgam Police reiterates it yet again to all community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace”, the statement further read.
