A gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in forest area of Kokernag in Anantnag district.
Reports said that that army’s 19 RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off the forest area , situated between the two villages of Kharpora and Kashwan in Kokernag, reports said.
Soon after the joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some gunshots amid the cordon leading to an encounter, an official said.
Two to three local JeM militants are believed to be trapped.
Latest reports said that one unknown militant has been killed in the encounter. The encounter was going on till the last reports came in.
