Contact was established after 9 days of extensive search, two AK- 47 riffles, ammo recovered: Def Spokesman

Rajouri, Jul 08: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the army, a soldier and two militants were killed after the army foiled an infiltration bid in Dadal village of Sunderbani area of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The contact with the militants was established after nine-days of extensive searches by the army in the area. “The contact with the militants was established early morning Thursday,” a defence official told news agency. “First contact was made with the militants on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday last week.”

A defence spokesman in Jammu said that based on information regarding infiltration and movement of militants in the Dadal area of Sundarbani Sector, District Rajouri, Army had launched extensive search operations from June 29.

“Subsequently, the information was corroborated on July 8, and a search and destroy patrol seeking pro-active engagement with the militants in Dadal forest area, and challenged them. The militants opened fire and lobbed hand grenades leading to a fierce encounter in which two militants from Pakistan were killed. Two AK-47 Rifles and ammunition in heavy quantity has been recovered from the militants,” the defence spokesman said.

He said that in the operation, an army (JCO) Naib Subedar Sreejith M and Sepoy Maruprolu Jaswanth Reddy received fatal injuries. “Search operation is still on,” he said. (KNO)
