Srinagar, May 1 (QNS): The Indian Army’s claim that its mountaineering expedition team in the higher Himalayas have found “mysterious footprints” in the snow that they consider belong to the Yeti or the abominable snowman, has triggered a storm.
Commenting on the pictures shared by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) chairman Dr Shah Faesal said that the footprints suggested: “Yeti is one-legged”.
Mocking the pictures, ex-IAS officer Faesal added that it seems Yeti lost his other leg in Balakot airstrike.
Here are the pictures of the “large” footprints found near the Makalu Base Camp in Nepal earlier this month and shared by the Indian Army on Monday night. At 8,485 m, Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world.
As per the Nepali folklore, Yeti is a mythical ape-like creature taller than an average human. It is said that Yeti inhabits the Himalayas, Siberia, Central and East Asia.
Not only Shah Faesal but also a number of Twitterati mocked the Army for posting the pictures.
“What the hell is wrong with you guys? Just look at those pics for heaven’s sake. That’s not a bipedal. Couldn’t you guys call a single animal expert before posting this? Unless you are claiming your yeti walks on a single foot and travels by jumping,” a user tweeted.
This is to be noted that in the absence of any evidence validating its existence, the scientific community has usually regarded the Yeti as a legend.
Meanwhile, former BJP MP Tarun Vijay has urged the Army not to describe Yeti as a “beast” but a “snowman”.
“Congratulations, we are always proud of you. salutes to the #IndianArmy Moutaineering Expedition Team. But please, you are Indian, dont call Yeti as beast. Show respect for them. If you say he is a ‘snowman’,” he said. (QNS)
