Kupwara, Jun 22: A huge cache of arms and ammunition alongside fifty-five packets of brown-sugar was recovered from a militant group killed in an operation in Machil sector, army said here on Friday. 

The army hailed the operation, launched by it in ‘Kala Jungle’ in Machil sector of Kupwara, as a major breakthrough against militants by the security forces. 

The operation, as per an army officer, led to the neutralization of a militant group (of four militants) and recovery of weaponry including 09 AK-47 rifles, 14 AK magazines, Fourteen magazines capable of housing ammunition for AK-47 rifles.

“The weaponry confiscated, highlighted the intent of militants to sustain prolonged engagements”, said the army officer.

“288 rounds of AK and Pistol, and a substantial cache of 288 rounds of ammunition, compatible with AK-47 rifles and pistols aimed for preparedness for extended encounters by militants were also recovered”, the army officer said. 

“The security forces recovered four hand grenades, three pistols and five magazines designed for pistols”, the army officer said adding the security forces also recovered fifty-five packets of brown-sugar from the slain militants. (GNS)
