Says Sgr’s urban transformation hot topic across country, Jhelum riverfront project will improve quality of life of Sher-e-Khaas inhabitants

Srinagar, Jan 16: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that the redesigned old Habba Kadal bridge in the City is a gift to the people of Sher-e-Khaas under Srinagar Smart City project and that the discussion over the urban transformation of Srinagar has been going on everywhere.

Sinha, who was accompanied by CEO Smart City, Dr Owais Ahmad and other officials, inaugurated the renovated exclusively pedestrian Old Habba Kadal Bridge and also laid a foundation of Jhelum Riverfront Phase-II this afternoon.

“Under Smart City project, this bridge is a gift to the people living in Sher-e-Khaas,” he said while talking to the media persons after inauguration.

He further stated that the work on Jhelum Riverfront phase-II at the cost of Rs 17.58 crore has also commenced from today, adding that under the phase-II, five kilometers will be covered while 24 ghats are coming up under the project.

Sinha added that the project will improve the quality of life of Srinagar residents, especially those living in Sher-e-Khaas. “Today, the discussion over Srinagar’s transformation is going on everywhere. I applaud the CEO Smart City and other officers for the tremendous work they have done. Besides, I am thankful to the people living in Srinagar also for taking part in such activities with enthusiasm,” he added.

Pertinently, the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) had taken up a project to redesign the old Habba Kadal bridge here in Srinagar at the cost of Rs 1.8 crore in a bid to preserve the old heritage and also create a public place in the congested old City area.

The bridge has been redesigned and constructed similar to the Zero bridge here where a huge rush of people could be seen visiting on a regular basis.

The work over the bridge was started in the month of August, 2023 and has been completed in a record time of five months.(KNO)
