Srinagar, Feb 07: Over Rs 18,000 crore gross Goods and Service Tax has been collected in Jammu and Kashmir in the last four financial years, documents reveal.

Documents accessed by news agency reveal that since 2020 Rs 18,590 crore has been collected as GST in Jammu and Kashmir.

Last year, the government collected Rs 5,004 crore as GST, while Rs 5246 crore GST was collected in Jammu and Kashmir in 2022. In 2021 and 2020, the government collected Rs 4,694 and 3,648 crores respectively as GST.

As per the officials, robust recovery in economic activities in Jammu and Kashmir has been the main reason for increase in GST collection.

Jammu and Kashmir registered a growth of 20 percent in the collection GST in December last year as compared December 2022. As against Rs 410 crore in December 2022, Rs 492 crore was collected as GST in December 2023.

Figures reveal that in the last four financial year, around 285 GST evasion cases were registered by Central Tax formations that included 14 during 2020-21, 89 during 2021-22, 78 during 2022-23 and 104 during 2023-24 till December 2023(KNO)
