Samci Restaurant , Sgr

Srinagar: A Division Bench of the High Court had directed the authorities to close down the ‘Samci Restaurant’ located in Polo View Srinagar after the owners failed to produce a proper food license.

On the directions of the Court, Tehsildar South Srinagar, Assistant Commissioner Foods and Drugs along with a team sealed this restaurant on 22 November last month.

Sources told the news agency that after a dispute between two brothers, the matter reached the court that subsequently ordered authorities to seal the ‘Samci Restaurant’.

The irony is that even after sealing the Restaurant one of the owners allegedly removed the seal, caring a fig for the law.

The restaurant can be seen functioning normally off and on even after it is sealed by the authorities.

“It seems the regulating authority is in deep slumber and that is why court orders are being flouted so easily. Why no action was taken when the officials at the helm of affairs were apprised about the situation,” one of the persons in the food business said.

He said when the Tehsildar South Srinagar was apprised of the situation and a written complaint was submitted before him, he sought a report from the Naib Tehsildar. ‘Nothing changed on the ground, even yesterday, (Sunday), ‘Samci Restaurant’ was operational,” he claimed.

A top official said that he will look into the matter and action will be initiated against the offender if he has removed the seal of the restaurant.

Tehsildar South Srinagar, Moen Azhar told  that the owner might have taken advantage as it was Sunday yesterday. “Not once, this restaurant has been sealed twice. We will look into the matter and ensure the law is implemented in letter and spirit,” he said. (KNT)
