Ganderbal, June 24: A 14-year-old student drowned in a fish pond while on a school picnic on Saturday at Sonmarg tourist resort of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, the police said.   

Scores of students and several teachers of Baramulla Public School (BPS), had gone for a picnic to Sonmarg tourist resort, an official said.

“While bathing in the fish pond, Shoaib Farooq Chachi, a resident of Chandosa Baramulla and Class 8 student, drowned. He was taken out and rushed to Primary Health Centre, Sonmarg, however, he breathed his lost on the way.”

The joy of students and school staff turned into mourning after the incident and they returned back with gloomy faces.

Police registered a case in this regard and started investigation. 

Meanwhile, Private Schools Association while expressing grief over the death of the student appealed to the administration to depute lifeguards at all the vulnerable tourist spots so as to prevent any loss of life.

The Association president GN Var said that the Private Schools Association would extend all possible help to the victim’s family. (KNT)
