Omar Abdullah

Says elections in J&K will not be fought for roads, electricity and water this time

Dooru, Dec 13: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Tuesday announced that he will revoke the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act or PSA if his party returns to power.

While addressing party workers at Dooru Anantnag , Omar Abdullah said that he has said it 3-4 years but today he is repeating his promise the day NC returns to power, first they will revoke the Public Safety Act (PSA).

He said that BJP is linking everything with religion in India and are trying to defame whole Muslim community.

“There are some parties who even don’t want to talk about identity and aren’t ready to fight against BJP but we have been raising our voices despite them having been using their all machinery against us,” he added.

“We have now officers here who openly say that they won’t entertain court orders and when they don’t care about court, how will they care about people of J&K,” Omar said.

“Our mineral contracts, employment and other things are being given to non-locals and even now postmen are non-locals here but our youth aren’t being provided opportunities outside like outsiders are being provided here,” Omar said. “Only such rules and law have been kept here by which they can harass people when there is no safety act anywhere in India, it has been kept only here, but NC is going to revoke it once voted for power.”

The NC chief said that elections are generally contested for development but this time elections will be fought for identity so that land, job and other rights will be there for locals.

He said that upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir will not be fought for roads, electricity and water, but for the identity of the people.

He said that upcoming elections, whenever they are held, will be fought for “our own identity and people in large numbers must participate in it.”

“Elections are generally contested for development but this time elections will be fought for identity so that land, jobs and other rights will be there for locals,” he said.

He said that promises made by the BJP when special status of J&K was abrogated have proven a hoax on ground as almost every recruitment process is being scrapped.

“On 05 August, 2019 we were kept in jails and it was being said these people are responsible for the mess in J&K but since then three years have passed but forget new projects, they failed to complete even our projects,” Omar Abdullah said.

He also said the government should give a unique ID to every household but for what when they already have Aadhaar, Pan and other numbers.

“This family ID is nowhere in India which is another attack on our identity and by creating these numbers the government is trying to ensure that J&K residents are known by numbers not by names,” he said.

“If we will have to save our identity and get rid of these numbers, people must participate in assembly elections and answer them with their votes,” he said.

He also said party president Dr Farooq Abdullah will join Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra at Lakhanpur.(KNO)
