A man got his wife killed by staging a road accident to get an insurance amount of Rs 1.90 crore in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. The accused, identified as Mahesh Chand, had hired a history-sheeter who rammed his car into the motorcycle on which Mahesh’s wife was riding along with her cousin.

The duo were killed in the accident.

STAGED ROAD ACCIDENT

The incident took place on October 5, when Mahesh’s wife, Shalu, along with her cousin Raju, had gone to visit Samod temple in Jaipur’s Harmada. The duo were killed in a collision with a Safari vehicle while on the way to the temple.

Chand had also got his wife insured for Rs 1 crore 90 lakh before the murder.

DCP Vandita Rana said that there were frequent fights between Mahesh and his wife Shalu. Shalu had also filed a dowry harassment case against Mahesh in 2019, after which he was arrested and sent to jail.

As a part of a planned conspiracy, Mahesh told his wife that a Pandit has said that they could lead a happy life if they visited Balaji 12 times. On the other hand, he had already paid Rs 5.50 lakh of the promised Rs 10 lakh contract to notorious history-sheeter Mukesh Singh Rathore for killing Shalu.

Pressurized by her husband, Shalu took her brother Raju on a motorcycle to visit the temple while Mahesh kept track of her location. The duo were mowed down by a speeding SUV, killing them on the spot.

ACCUSED ARRESTED

Police scanned the CCTV footage and found that the SUV deliberately hit the duo while the bike was moving on the side. During the investigation, it was found that about four months ago, Mahesh had got Shalu insured for Rs 1.90 crore for death in accident.

Police have arrested five accused, including Mahesh, Raju, Mukesh Singh Rathore, Sonu Singh and Rakesh Bairwa, in connection with the case.
