Kargil, Feb 26: The administration in Kargil district has decided to reopen the schools on March 15 now after the winter break.

The decision has been taken in view of the inclement weather and accumulation of heavy snowfall in several areas. The government and private schools were scheduled to reopen on March 1st after winter break.

Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Monday chaired a review meeting pertaining to reopening of schools in the district post winter vacations.

Executive Councillor, Tourism, Kacho Mohd Feroz, Executive Councillor, Social Welfare, Aga Syed Mujtaba, Executive Councillor, Education, Zakir Hussain, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse and Chief Education Officer, Kargil, S.D Wangyal were present during the meeting.

“During the meeting, thorough deliberations and discussions were held, leading to the decision that, due to the current weather conditions, heavy snowfall accumulation, and accessibility issues in various sub divisions including Zanskar, Drass, and Taisuru of Sankoo, and with the health of the students in mind, schools will reopen by March 15, 2024,” said an official.

The CEC also directed the concerned officers to make necessary arrangements for reopening of schools.
